UK government cuddles up to Tony Blair |

Friday 6th November 2009
The UK government is today mounting a vigorous campaign to push Tony Blair for the EU presidency despite the fact that many of his supporters within the EU appear to have disappeared. It is unclear why the UK government is being so proactive with regards to Tony Blair and the EU presidency because there is much documented friction between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair in the past. The main force behind this latest push would appear to be Lord Mandelson who has always been a firm supporter of Tony Blair and indeed ruined his earlier friendship with Gordon Brown by siding with his arch enemy. The very fact we are seeing an unelected Prime Minister of the UK pushing Tony Blair into an unelected role in the EU perfectly reflects the rather bizarre political and economic situation we have in the UK. Despite growing public anger against the way the EU is taking on a more proactive role within the UK economy and the UK in general, the government seems determined to push for closer ties between the UK and EU and would appear to see Tony Blair as the perfect ally within EU ranks. Whether this will go down well with UK voters remains to be seen!

Blair would bring shame on the EU. He failed to promote or further the European ideal whilst Premier of his country and to date the UK has neither adopted Schengen nor the Euro. He promised the British Electorate a referendum on Europe but again failed to deliver. Britain remains outside the European mainstream because of Mr Blair’s failure to commit to Europe. His part in the illegal war with Iraq make him wholly unsuitable for this post. An Iraq War Enquiry currently being held in Britain is facing calls for those found responsible to face War Crimes charges. He has callously used his warrior contacts to secure extremely lucrative consultancies in vulnerable countries and his record as Middle East Peace Envoy is laughable. The Stop Blair online petition has almost 45,000 signatures and don't forget the millions across the world who demonstrated against him and Bush in 2003. Blair at the head of Europe would be a travesty.
