RBS banker disappearance causes concern

Huibert Boumeester, one of the main players when Royal Bank of Scotland took over ABN Amro, has this evening disappeared with Westminster police very keen to talk to him amid concerns about his safety. While he is regarded as one of the brightest brains in the UK banking sector Boumeester has been under pressure of late because of his involvement with the ABN Amro deal and the significant financial distress this has since caused Royal Bank of Scotland.

While there is no doubt that mistakes have been made in the past in the banking sector as a whole, the harsh reality is that pressure born on banking brain such as Boumeester has become too much for many. There are now real concerns for his safety after he missed a number of meetings and police noted that two of his firearms were missing. Even though his name has rarely appeared in the press over the last 18 months, in connection with the demise of Royal Bank of Scotland, pressure on the likes of Sir Fred Goodwin and his associates has intensified.

Many people forget that we are dealing with human beings who have maybe made mistakes but who in the end were funded by institutional and private shareholders. When dealmakers such as Boumeester were making substantial money for investors there was no problem but the first sign of trouble and the blame is piled back on to these banking brains.
